No i am not deleting my blog or going on a blog sabbatical. I am not even going on vacation. I am moving... to typepad. I have been considering a move to typepad for quite some time now. With a ton of help and support from some friends (Vallen, Kristin, Ky, Sally and Toni) I have been able to construct my new blog. I am really excited about the new possibilities I have there. Especially being able to email you directly via your comments.

I have been really busy trying to get the invitations out for my sister's baby shower.

So here is the "Santa" pic we took this year. You know how you are so busy looking to make sure the kids look cute? Yeah we didn't even think to look at dear, old and I mean OLD Santa. My friend Kristin nailed it when she said, He looks like he has the weight of the world around his neck with that key thing. She also got quite a giggle out of the fact that my kids were wearing shorts in this pic. Being a So Cal native I sometimes forget that others of you are dealing with "weather" like Kristin was a couple weeks ago.
1 degree. Yikes!

Ok gotta go box, wrap, create etc. I think I might call in sick tomorrow. * cough* (I really am sick I swear)

Christmas cute everywhere

After being totally obsessed with these. (I have made 6) I realized it was high time for me to start thinking about Christmas cards. Unfortunately with this head cold my mind is blank. No.ideas.at.all. Except that they will have a cute pic of my kids somewhere in it or on it. Yet I haven't even made an attempt to do what Sally is doing. So I have been hanging out in denial, looking at all the cute things you have been making. Have you seen these? Pure distraction! I must try some. Even a little bird's little bird is getting into the act. I am five times her age and don't think I have ever made anything this cute. All I can say is when is the etsy shop opening Mia? I'm ready to buy.

Keep up the good work ladies. I may just have to send out New Years cards this year.

So have you tried one yet? I was inspired by this. Tried to make one like this, only to find I did not have enough red buttons :( So I used what I had on hand. Pretty huh? Haven't figured out what ribbon to use yet though. Read: anal girl wants to buy exact ribbon for these, when she has a whole basket full already.

This craft project was a little tough for me. I am a complete hoarder and I always save my cool buttons for that "perfect project". So to use this many at a time, on one project was a good exercise for me. Besides I just won three amazing buttons lots on ebay last night, ahem. Oh it was a good exercise but now I have to replenish my supply don't I? Oh and of course get some red ones to finish my wreath. Yeah, I know it sounds fishy to me too.

I was wrapping presents. Yes, I am just as surprised as you that I even had this many presents to wrap. Although I do love the finished result, wrapping is one of those tasks that I dread. I always wait until the last minute and have 507 present to wrap. Do you guys wrap on the floor? For some reason I do and my back always hurts when I am done. SO although we have no decked halls, we have wrapped presents and that is almost just as good.

I was also spending time with my kids. We had really nice weather here last week and we took advantage of that. My daughter was off school, so we made cookies and did some shopping just her and I. She loves her mommy time and I love to see her growing up into such a sweet girl.

I also had some time to do some artwork. I have finished one collage and started two others. Actually, do you remember this? Well, it is still a work in progress but another collage idea developed because of it. I am trying to work towards a shop update by next week.

Just a few of my finds from Monticello Antiques

Today was the first day in a long time that we didn't have to be ANYWHERE! We stayed in our pj's until 11am. Then headed over to Barnes and Noble to conquer a little Christmas shopping and to get this mom some fun magazines. Like Blair, I have yet to jump onto the yuletide bandwagon. Like many others I am hoping for a low-key holiday season. I restrained from participating in any craft fairs/trunk show/boutique type things this year. I also didn't sign up for any holiday swaps, which I am sure I will regret once you all start posting the amazing things you receive. I know myself though and I would just turn into a big bucket of stress. That my friends is no fun for anyone, especially my little muffins. :) So I just need to get going on the shopping and the decorating. Because really that is where the fun is.

Hi everyone, just a short post to say hello. I am on the last few days of a three week marathon. You have all been here before haven't you? Something scheduled EVERY day. Some really fun, some not so fun and some not expected. This week I have been to a 20 year high school reunion (not mine, at least not yet), to the rose bowl flea market, will celebrate a special boy's third birthday, go to a parent teacher conference, throw a baby shower and juggle three minimum days and a day off of school. Wish me luck I'll need it. By Thursday I will be ready to catch up on all my favorite blogs and be posting much more myself.

Hi all, I am back. Posting later in the week than I thought, my schedule has been packed since the minute I returned. I do have so much to tell you all.

First a confession, I didn't take many photos. I know, I know but rainy weather and hands FILLED with bags is not conducive to picture taking. Please forgive me. Portland was absolutely beautiful. Fall was in full swing. The colors of the trees, absolutely breathtaking. It was raining the whole time we were there but we didn't let that stop us.

Us? Yes, I was lucky enough to spend the weekend with Kristin. Thank you my dear friend for taking time out to come on this adventure with me. Good times, great talks, where should we go next? :)

So after getting there the first thing on the agenda was Studio Craft. By now I am sure you have heard all over the blogging universe how much fun this was. I concur it was. Not only was the room filled with beautifully handmade things, but it was filled with beautiful people. That for me was better than the shopping (did I really just say that?) It was the connection of meeting people I have been only been able to talk to via computer or admired from afar up until now. Blair, Melissa and Sally are even more wonderful in "real life". Funny, kind and so very genuine. I was excited to introduce myself to Alicia and Stephanie both of who's work I really admire. I also got to meet Lisa, I loved her energy, she radiates. Then I got to meet Sumi who unfortunately does not have a blog but is uber-talented and just an all around sweet person. Most of the stuff I bought from Studio Craft is going to be given away as gift so I can't show much.

From Studio Craft we were given directions to Mississippi Avenue by the lovely Melissa. Great shopping but the weather was blustery and COLD. We managed to hit all the stores and found some great stuff at a place called Flutter. Pizza for lunch then back to the hotel. Out again to see Running With Scissors (wow, yikes, ummm disturbing) and then to a great dinner.

The next day we stayed in our pjs till noon. Ahh bliss!! A phone call from Sally got us going to Alberta Street to shop and see an installation of Amy Ruppel's art at a place called Office. We had a wonderful breakfast and met up with Sally and Sumi. We had some girlie chat at a cafe then set off to hit Grasshopper, Bolt, a knitting shop (what was the name of that place again?) and Office. Well I am sad to say we only got to go to Grasshopper. Who knew the shops closed at 4pm on Sunday :( Oh well we survived, not knowing that our greatest shopping adventure was still to come. Back to the hotel and then out again to see Marie Antoinette. (A complete visual treat, great music too)

On the last day (already?) we made our way over to the Monticello Antique Mall. Jackpot! Thank god we did not stop anywhere else because we needed every minute left of our Portland trip to explore this place. I have been to plenty of antique malls in my time but let me tell you...The Best EVER! Seriously! The booty we scored unparalleled.

On a plane, back home to real life. Hmm...Portland, what a great town.

My littlest pirate was not cooperating in the photo shoot I was trying to have on Halloween. This is the only decent photo I got of both of them.

Ironically my last post was titled momentum and I haven't posted for almost a week. It is not because I haven't been inspired just crazy busy. Doctor appointment, Halloween, half-day of school, award ceremony, first day of dance class and I am leaving for Portland tomorrow to go here. It should be lots of fun. I promise to fill you all in when I get back. See you next Tuesday.

work in progress - momentum

Above is my work in progress for the week. I love the way the canvas turned out colors + polka dots. I am still struggling with the placement and the elements I will use. Who knows if the wallpaper or the flash card will even end up in the final piece. This is the largest piece I have attempted to work on, 18 x 18. Really large, great ephemera is hard to come by. That is why I love these vintage flashcards so much, they are huge!

It feels really good to be back here. To have dedicated myself to being more present and less worried about it being perfect. I am inspired again. I am working again. Have a lovely weekend everyone.

new week, fresh start

I have been thinking a lot about my blog lately. My lack of posting, my reasons why. So I am going to try something new. Less Words. Although I love telling a story and writing, I think this is often what holds me back from posting. I always feel like I have to have something profound to say. I have come to realize that you all visit my blog for different reasons. I am always amazed at how one post will bring in a ton of comments and another will be almost comment free. It is so interesting to see what really inspires people. For me blogging is just as much about interacting as it is a journal of my life. I love my comments and people who leave them. I love looking back at my archives and smiling at all I have accomplished, the friends I have made and how my kids have grown.

So we will see how this goes.

Sorry to be posting so late in the day. My last Project Runway post of the season. From the sound of things some of you won't be back next season. You'll be missed. I have to say this season wasn't my favorite but I REALLY enjoyed all of you joining in the conversation here. (Maybe more so than the actual show)

So Jeffrey won. I guess I knew he would after watching Michaels painful downward spiral. I didn't find ANY of the collections that inspiring. There were pieces here and there in all of them that I really liked but on a whole nothing was jaw-dropping. Did you notice too that as Michaels designs began to falter Jeffrey all the sudden became softer. (Less woman bashing and bleeping every other word) It's amazing how much editing can change a character. Yes I do realize this is a REALITY show but lets face it the producers were blatantly apparent in this season.

I also think that Ulle won second place over Laura because of her German connection. Laura's designs may have been typical to her style but Ulle's were pretty typical too. I do think the construction of Laura's designs were far better than Ulle's. Some of Ulle's dresses looked like they were going to fall off her models. Both of them designed for a specific demographic.

Oh and how pissed is Laura? I think the main reason she wanted to win was so Jeffrey didn't. Oh and also I didn't realize she was married to Albert Einstein. Noticed that last week but forgot to mention it.

So my friends, it is time to wrap up. Please be sure to let me know how you feel about the finale. I really can't wait.

Back on the Runway

Sorry for not posting on the last two shows. ( final four and reunion) The final four show you pretty much knew that all four were going to fashion week by the previews and for the most part all the designs were very average. The reunion was pretty unexciting. We learned one thing, that Keith was far more delusional and bitter than we thought.

Last night's show was actually pretty good. It was fun to see the collections coming along. I have to say I thought Jeffrey's designs were the most exciting. Laura and Ulle's were very "them". What happened to poor Michael? Oh my god, that white shirt with the sequin pockets. I think I saw a 70 year old lady wearing that in a Las Vegas casino last year. I hope they just focused on that piece and we will be surprised by all his other pieces. I hope!

So of course more drama...did Jeffrey outsource his work? Once again the previews would have you believe he gets kicked off. They maybe shouldn't give away so much, it makes the show kind of a let down.

So what did you guys think?

This is a VERY clean version of what my table looks like when I am creating a collage. I must say I had a tinge of regret and maybe a little bit of envy when I read this beautiful post. I love the idea that Amanda's knitting is always with her, ready when she is ready. Unfortunately for me I fell in love with something that is so far from portable it waivers on the ridiculous. When I went to an art retreat earlier this year it took me hours longer to pack my supplies and stash than it did my clothes.
I love my collage stuff.
I love how I feel when I am making a collage.
I love how I feel when I realize it is complete.
Sometimes I just instantly know, and other times it takes me days to decide.
I have also had the feeling a collage was incomplete and still sent it on it's merry way.
What kind of art/craft makes your heart skip a beat?

Hello there. Thank you for all the positive feedback on my initial collages. Wow, you all sure know how to make a girl's day (or seven) I'm sorry I have been posting on a very erratic schedule. I just can't seem to get all my ducks in a row lately. I'm having a little trouble balancing craft, home, work, computer. I suck at time management. I'm sure you all have struggled with this at one point or another. I know the weather has something to do with it too. Instead of feeling inspired by fall(which we are just now starting to feel) I was feeling pressure to start getting ready for the holiday season. I got a little overwhelmed, took a deep breath and said to myself one thing at a time. So now I am feeling a bit more calm and a lot more peaceful. So hopefully, you'll start seeing some regular posting with more art + craft.

Tuesday night a few friends and I went to see Cyndi Lauper. I know the image you have in your head, a crazy haired looney chick with weird clothes. I mean we all saw the She-Bop cartoon video in the 80's. Surprisingly though, at least to me, she has an amazing voice and puts on a really good show. She modernized her classics and even the songs I didn't know were worth the price of admission. I must say too that I hope I look that good when I am 53 year old. So come on go to itunes and download Time after Time, it wil sounds just as good as it did when you were in middle school. Maybe even better now that your braces are off.

Challenge: to create a cocktail outfit using only black and white
Challenge twist: Angela and Vincent were brought back from auf'dom to participate in this challenge. In order to stay they have to win the challenge.
Three people will be eliminated in this challenge.
Challenge twist #2 - The designers must use ALL of the fabric they purchase.

I really like the concept of tonight's challenge. Since the designers were all using the same color palette cut, design and creativity were very important. I was a little disappointed in the lack of creativity from the designers. I loved Michael and Kayne's dresses. Both very simple. I could appreciate Laura's but it still seemed a little stuffy to me. I can empathize with the exhaustion she must be feeling. The pace and the stress of the competitions would have me crying too. Pregnancy is hard enough without adding those elements. I am sure winning the competition lifted her spirits.

So thank god Angela and Vincent were again sent packing, as it should be. I thinkUli really should have gone before Kayne. I feel Kayne garments do show originality, although sometimes lacking a little in taste. Uli, as we have discussed here, makes the same garment over and over in different fabrics. The sleeves on her dress tonight were awful. I am SOOO very bored with her designs. I thought Jeffrey's outfit was hideous. It looked like an outfit from the window of Charlotte Russe (no offence to the store but nobody ever goes in and buys EVERYTHING the mannequin is wearing) I am glad Heidi told him that he does the same thing over and over. Edge but with no elegance. He too really needs to show another side or I'm sure he will be eliminated. Michael is sure showing all the signs of winning. Michael Kors can't stop gushing about him. Well deserved!

Last but not least, it was interesting the number of voters who wanted Allison back in the challenge huh?

We are only a few weeks away from finding out the winner. Any predictions on who will be out next week?

Not just an ordinary day

I can't pretend that today is an ordinary day because it is not. Five years ago today the world changed forever, mine included. One of my first thought as I watch the events unfold was, "Oh my God, what kind of a world have I brought my child into. She was 10 months old at the time. Above is one of the first collages I ever did. I have the collage wrapped in a mesh that resembles a chain link fence, I took it off so you could read it. Tourist grapple with seeing ground zero or not. This article was written a few months after the attacks. It struck me for some reason. I never have or will understand why. I had no plans to go to New York as I was afraid to fly before September 11th. I just knew if I was in New York I would struggle with the decision to go to ground zero or not. It was a place where thousands had lost their lives, hallowed ground, not a tourist attraction. It was also place where so much history happened in one single day. Was it disrespectful to all that died there to not go and pay your respects? I felt guilty for feeling so strongly about New York with so many other losing their lives at the Pentagon, and on the planes. I think it was watching the towers fall. That to me was just...

Fast forward to 2003, I was pregnant with my second child and had the opportunity to accompany my sister to New York. The decision to join her was easy. However I did struggle the whole time I was there with the question above. We stayed on Chambers Street which is well within walking distance of Ground Zero. On my last day there I made the decision to go. I will forever be grateful that I did. When I arrived I saw signs, signs that immediately told me others had been there and it was ok. There was a huge sign stating that the Governors of New York, New Jersey and the Mayor of New York had put this make shift memorial in place so people like me could mourn and honor all the people who lost their lives here. There was also a huge sign with all the Heros of September 11th, names of all the people that had died that day. I felt a deep, guttural wave of sadness but then a peacefulness. I am suppose to be here. I want each and every person who lost there life to know that I am sorry they are gone.

I will always remember. I will never forget.

We have been invaded by ants. I have spent the majority of today trying to get rid of the buggers. Does anyone out there have any homeopathic methods to keep these pesky critters at bay? Spraying Raid in my house makes me nervous because of the kids. Please help. I tried to google but the search proved to be frustrating. I kept getting product website for me to buy things to get rid of ants, I think I may not have been looking for the right thing. HELP!!!

Challenge: to create a couture gown- focus to be on the handmade detailing of the dress
Challenge twist: the gown had to fit two models (a Parisian and their original model in New York)

This challenge had our designers still in the City of Lights. They ate, shopped and created in Paris so what could go wrong, apparently quite a bit. Michael lost his Mojo, Laura went flat, Uli did the same thing AGAIN (with better material) and Kayne was Kayne once again. I didn't care for many of the dresses. The designers only had 2 days to create their pieces. Tim Gunn himself said that couture gowns can have a hundred hours of hand detail work. So um yeah, you can guess the couture aspect was minimal. Jeffrey's dress was my favorite. It was very inspired and modern. I think he absolutely deserved to win for this dress. (You have no idea how hard it is for me to type that) and of course... Vincent is out! How does everyone feel about that? Oh wait I already know. All I can say is thank god I do not have to hear about what gets Vincent off ONE MORE TIME! That guy is creepy! Bye bye ya freak!

random thoughts:
What was with the freakish growing belly of Laura in Paris but once back in New York the baby bump was back to normal 3 month size? Did they reshoot scenes or something?

Does anyone kinda wish Keith was still in the running? Yeah he was a pompous ass but damn his designs were interesting and beautifully made.

How funny was Kayne and his moustache, goatee and beret? Love him, even if he is pure vegas!

Prediction final three: Michael, Jeffrey and Laura. Hmm I am having deja vu (Daniel V., Santino and Chloe) If you didn't watch last season they were respectively, the shy one, the bad boy and the chick.

When I received this package of amazingly beautiful things in the mail from Kristin last week, I was speechless. These handmade goodies are the result of an art trade Kristin and I did a few months back. The three thing trade. Yes, you have read about this kind of trade on my blog before. It is one of my favorites. I sent Kristin three things and she was to use them to create something and send it back to me. I did the same for her. Well nothing could have prepared me for what she sent. First you must understand that Kristin had never attempted collage before. When we started this project she said she was interested in trying it out. Um did you see the box she made? I would have paid some serious cash for that if I saw it in a store. Then you have to understand her attention to details. In the inside of the box is three tiny pictures of my children (they are stamps). The reason she used those is because those stamps are basically the thing that started our friendship. A swap-bot swap, a thank you and a conversation about those stamps. We have been pals ever since. Talk about a touching detail. Then there is the gorgeous needlebook. The details on the bird almost brought me to tears when I looked at it. Embroidery is Kristin's specialty. I am so glad she decided to use it. I had felt for a while that this trade had been a little unfair. Kristin was taking on a new medium and I was working in my comfort zone. So when I saw this needlebook it settled my soul a little. She was able to do something in her comfort zone too.

She also included my own embroidery starter kit and the cutest damn tomato pincushion you have ever seen. If you would like to see more pics or a better pictorial rundown of our trade go here. Sorry for the late post. I actually feel asleep last night during the show and had to watch all that I missed this morning.

Challenge: To make an outfit for an international jet setter.
Challenge twist: The designers would model their own outfits. They then flew to Paris to see how well the outfits traveled and then were told who was out.

Someone left a comment last week about how they were not enjoying how mean spirited this season of PR has become. I have to say that I agree whole-heartedly. In the beginning I so much enjoyed being a Project Runway "sportscaster" if you will, running down the shows highlights and talking about all the personality quirks. Over the last couple of weeks I have watched the show desolve into something I am not really enjoying. I am sad to say it has never been more obvious that the shows producers have just as much input on the winners and losers of the challenges as the judges. It seems to me that Jeffrey has become the focus on the show. They cut to his face to get his reaction for almost everything. His negativity is repulsive.
At this point I don't care who wins as long as it is not him.

So riddle me this: Kayne and Jeffrey's outfit were both very much them. Why was Kayne's outfit ridiculed and Jeffrey's outfit praised. From my stand point and I know you will tell me if you think I am wrong...Kayne's outfit looked much better constructed, the details were interesting. His belt was over the top but that is Kayne. Jeffrey's jacket lapel looked sloppy and what was up with the crotch chain? As far as I could tell the t-shirt was his own (is that even fair?) I thought his outfit looked like he rolled out of bed. So what we learned today is that good construction and fit are nothing if you outfit looks like it should be on a rockstar. Hmmm?

I thought Laura's dress was beautiful even if the color was a little boring. I am a little sick of the same garmet Uli makes over and over. Vincent's was a cop out. Michael's was interesting but not my fav. Angela's ugh! It was time to go. Au revoir rosettes.

Sorry for the not so great picture, it doesn't do the collage justice. The mirror she incorporated made a good pic a little difficult but i just had to share the meaning behind it. She told me the mirror represents the reflection of an artist. I love that! As always Mary Ann, thank you for indulging me in you beautiful art. I hope you don't get sick of me never getting mine to you before the deadline . It's coming, I swear :)

The adorable journal above was made by my open yours 09 partner Kristi. I adore all things embroidered and that is what she did on the cover. So cute. to give my loyal blog readers some HUGE love. You guys! Thanks so much to all of you for your sweet and heartfelt comments about my last post. Reading them throughout the day made a world of difference and of course she did great. Apparently, kindergarten is more fun than Magic Mountain! At least that is what my little girl told me. (For those of you that don't know, Magic Mountain is an amusement park in So CAL.) So thank you from the bottom of my almost mended heart.

Now onto the Project Runway recap because that is the real reason you are here, right? So in keeping with the emotional week I am having, tonight's Project Runway was no exception.

The challenge was to make an outfit for the everyday woman. Seems easy enough right? Wrong. The everyday women were moms and sisters of the designers. The designers each had to pick a "model" and you could not pick your own mother or sister. I have to say that I absolutely hated how they picked playground style for the models. Of course the slimmer women went first and the bigger women were picked last.

So ok all you Jeffrey fans out there, I am gonna say it. I officially hate him. Now I myself am not a big Angela fan but Angela's mom is not Angela. He was so just so hateful and mean to her. I was appalled. I also gained a little respect for Angela for not totaling losing it and going off on him. If anyone EVER talked to my mom that way, I would kick their ass. Talented or not (and tonight his dress showed no signs) I am giving up my seat in the Jeffrey cheering section.

So as far as the designs went this week I only had a few that I even liked. It was a very tough challenge. Much to almost everyone's amazement (including mine) Vincent's was one of the best. I thought the style was very age appropriate and the color and fit was nice. Of course Michaels outfit was the cutest. Don't you want that dress? Although he had an advantage because his model was small. I couldn't understand why everyone hated Kayne's outfit so much. I thought it made Michael's mom look younger and hip. I thought the color looked great on her. Oh well what do I know? I disliked Uli's outfit although the judges loved it. I thought it was ill-fitting and that necklace. Robert's outfit was the worst (so boring again) although his model was probably the biggest. He has had several chances and he could of given a little personality to his outfit. A scarf or something! Laura's outfit looked like something a stewardess would have worn in the 1980's.

Too tired for my random runway thoughts. Please leave one of yours! That show kinda drained me tonight, here's to hoping for a more upbeat show next week. If you haven't done this already come back in a few days and read all the comments people have been leaving about my update. People are really getting into this, I love it.

Hi friends, things are a little crazy around here so I just wanted to check in. In-laws are here, my first born starts kindergarten on Monday. Challenge: Create an outfit from recycled material.

This definitely has to be the most challenging task to date. Although I am beginning to despise Laura, (she is clearly the new villain), she always has one clear and concise thing to say on every show. There was a whole lot of ugly in that room. Kayne's dress was the worst, however he was honest with the judges and has shown potential in the past. Allison's dress was definitely ill-fitted and not very innovative. I have to agree with the judges decision to vote Allison's out although I already know some of you will disagree me.

On a brighter note, once again Michael Knight wins the challenge. His outfits are always so well thought out and his construction is impeccable. He just never gets it wrong. By the way do you think KIT had anything to do with his two wins?? :)

Surprisingly there were no rosettes or fleurshauns anywhere to be seen on Angela's dress, she opted for a space suit instead.

Then there is Jeffrey who is just bitter with a capital B. He said Michael's dress was "The equivalent of diabetic food. There is no flavor. " The holier than thou bit is getting a little old Jeffrey. Like Laura said last week, If you are all that Jeffrey, then what are you doing here?
Let's see ya win a challenge bitter boy.

Ok on a final note, a few random things:
Six - The number of F bombs that were dropped on the show tonight.

Three - The number of times Vincent refered to his dress in a sexual way" Ewwwwwwwww!

Too many - the number of times Laura has worn her riding outfit on the show. If you listened closely when they were leaving to find out what their challenge was Allison said to Laura, " It's a good thing you have on your riding outfit in case it's a horse" (challenge) Hilarious!

Zero - The number of remaining weeks I can tolerate Vincent's painful and freakish facial expressions.

My friend Maryann sends me stuff. Random stuff, all the time and I love it. Ephemera, ribbons, vintage cards anything she thinks I will like. I know her handwriting and smile when I open my mailbox and there she is. She is such a generous and positive person. We are currently doing a an art collage swap I cannot wait to see what she comes up with. Above is a card she recently sent me. It is so beautiful, I just love it. Looking at it make me feel at peace, which doesn't happen very often.

Maryann also made these magnets. Aren't they great! Sorry for the bad picture. My daughter made me laugh when she looked at the finch one. She said, "I feel sorry for that one, he only has a head." Oh the mind of a 5 year old. Happy Saturday!

This is what I have been working on this week. It is for a friend that is going through some big changes in her life. She drew the couch and I was inspired by it so I asked her if I could have the drawing to make her something. I painted the couch with watercolors then layered on all the collage pieces. There are 4 buttons because she has 4 children. Do you see the cameo head in the middle of the buttons? That represents my friend, we laugh and call ourselves domestic goodesses (we are kidding of course) The piece is better in "real life" Sometimes the computer screen just cannot translate the texture of a collage very well. Looks like red is playing a big role in my art lately. Hmmm wonder what that means.

There are so many things I could have called this post: Read below and pick your favorite:

Playing the new villan is...- since Keith is gone someone has to fill his evil, arrogant shoes. The only question is will it be Jeffery or Laura? Gotta love a little PR catfight :) For the record, I would bet money that Angela did screw up that machine.

Welcome aboard Captain Save a 'Ho- So all the Michael fans were right, it was finally his time to shine. It was so refreshing to actually see into Michael's world on this episode. To watch his process, hear his thoughts along the way and to see the final product. Very exciting! Although, I am sure glad I am not the one that has to wear the hot pants. I also can't believe he remade the outfit and still won. Wow!

Did Gramma steal Robert's fashion Mojo?- Did Robert hear his icon's name wrong? It's Jackie O Robert, not Jackie Old. Did he just get lucky in the first few challenges? These last two outfit have seriously got me thinking he may need to go home soon too. I mean YIKES! Can anyone out there help me understand why he didn't use the Tiffany blue fabric he originally bought???

Angela's rosettes get a new name - Last week and the week before they were called rosettes but now they are fleurshauns? HUH? By the way, please forgive me if that really is indeed a word, as I have no idea how to spell it. Anyone want to place a wager that the rosettes, I mean fleurshauns will once again make it onto the outfit next week? What will they be called next time? Flowerette de used too mucho?

Space Cadet goes home- Sorry to say, but I am glad to see Bradley go home. He is always so scattered, it really was only a matter of time. I think he was a little out of his league, or maybe on another planet.

gift tag swap - part one

I finished my 10 tags for Tammie's gift tag swap this weekend. Pictured above is my favorite one. I used fairly large tags as I have a hard time working small, like on an ATC for example. The small size seems to stunt my creativity somehow. Anyone else feel this way? Anyhow I digress, the best news about all of this is that I actually finished the tags well before their due date. (August 21) This my friends has NEVER happened before. Woohoo me, what will I do with all my extra time. Oh yeah, I need to work on my open yours package, complete Maryanne's collage and get started on Dee's collage. Busy, that is just how I like it :)

First inspired by this post, today I am working on a baby gift for a long time family friend. The final result is more like this and this on a onsie. Her shower is tomorrow. Nothing like working at the last minute. I came up with a chickie, a hippo, an elephant and a lion. My favorite one so far is the elephant. I still have to do the finish work, put some eyes and mouths on the animals. Right now I am waiting for them to come out of the washing machine. I wanted to make sure they withstood the laundry test. I'll post a pic with I am done. Wish me luck!

Challenge - A 3 piece look for the INC line at Macy's

Alrighty then, the shows dismissal wasn't quite as dramatic as the previews made it out to be. You pretty much knew from the start that it was going to be Keith who was kicked off. Although I do think he is talented, I could not stand his arrogance and was happy to see him go. His little speech after he was told to leave confirmed that. These are his words: I felt bad, I think we are all under a lot of stress and we wind up sort of finding a scapegoat sometimes.
Ummm dude? Reality check, you broke the rules. Buh Bye!

So on to the challenge. I found this challenge a little boring but understood why it had to take place. Macy's is sponsoring the mentorship for the winning designer therefore they need some airtime. I thought the judges were spot on in their picks. I have to say I thought Robert's outfit was the worst. Which is surprising because everything he's worked on up until now has been designed well. His dress last week was fabulous. Bonnie's outfit wasn't very stylish but I thought the lines and proportions were better than Robert's. So Bonnie was out. I am ok with that because I never really saw her star shine. I have seen Robert's potential and know it is there. Like Malan, his outfit just didn't translate. So good for him to get a second chance.

Ok now to the win of Angela. What to say? Obviously the girl had to have some kind of talent to get on this show in the first place. I think she was saved by the two of the best designers being on her team, Laura and Michael. Laura wouldn't let Angela get out of control and kept the taste card intact. ( I imagine that is how she deals with her 6 children) Michael just did what he always does, executed a classic, beautiful outfit. So good for you Angela, you are safe another week. Here's to hoping you'll have a another team challenge because that is what saved you. Oh and one more thing, what is up with the rosette obsession? Angela, stop watching reruns of Sex and the City circa 2002.

Yeah you could say I'm kinda getting into this show but remember this is just my opinion. What's yours?????

Ok I'm sure you are all sick of leaving "oh how cute" comments on my blog but I just couldn't resist. The hat is the only part I played in this outfit, the rest was all his idea. Doesn't the hat look super-imposed or something. He just has a small nugget!

I once told a friend that my blog would reflect my world. Some days I feel like an artist and some days I feel like a mommy. Some days both. I have obviously been feeling very mommy lately. Thank you for your comments on both of my worlds. I read and cherish every one.

It is a wonderful pattern we get into with blogging. Meeting people by comments on your blog or by commenting on anothers blog. Finding that common thread. I was lucky enough to come across a blog full of Goodness. Ky and I started a conversation that turned into a coincidence that because a swap. Above is just an inkling of what I received in my swap with Ky. Oh the possibilities. This girl is soooo talented and needs to open her etsy shop pronto.

Above is the result of another comment, chat, trade. Angela of Norththreads was looking to trade a super cool bingo card (see them in the top of the pic?) The picture is horrible but one of the cards is turquoise and red, two of my favorite colors. So not only did she send two bingo cards but a ton of other wonderful stuff. Pictured above are some of my favorites. Angela made some cool books with some of stuff I sent her. Check them out in her shop here. I really want one.

I also was lucky enough to be counted as one of Maryann's secret swappers. She has been cleaning out the house and I was the recipient of one amazing envelope full of trim. Sorry there is no picture but I could not contain myself. I opened every bag and dumped the trim right out onto the floor. Not a very pretty picture except for the huge grin on my face as I thought, Now what will I use these for :)

Project Dog Outfit

Wow what an episode! I don't even know where to start. The challenge: come up with a story of a dog owner and her pup. Design a woman's wear outfit around that story for the woman and her greatest accessory.

There were so many great dresses last night. I had trouble picking which one was my favorite. Uli, Jeffrey, Kayne, Michael and of course Keith all made amazing creations. Ultimately I think my favorite was Keith's but I think he has such a bad attitude that I didn't even want him to win. The construction on that dress was amazing but his poor little dog got nada!

I am completely frustrated that Angela yet again didn't get her walking papers. Last week she was rewarded for not being a team player and having nothing to do with the construction of the dress she represented. This week she gets rewarded for sending a streetwalker down the catwalk. Although Katherine's dress was simple, it was very pretty. She definitely had the best dog outfit. Argh!

A few other random runway thoughts:

*Although I can appreciate Laura's design, aren't her outfits all starting to look the same? I think she needs to stop making stuff she wants to wear. Did you know she was pregnant with her SIXTH child while filming this????

*Vincent cracks himself up

*I hated Bradley's outfit but didn't want to see him go home on his birthday

*This season has some of the best designers yet. It will be a battle till the end
Keep an eye on the under the radar Jeffrey and Michael. They both have shown beautiful work that has yet to be recognized.

Can't WAIT till next week when someone gets kicked off.

the friends decided to take after meeting each other in *real life*. We met, talked, smiled, laughed, tried to eat and it's a shame because that food was really good. We just couldn't fit it in with all the talking, laughing and smiling we were so busy doing. Then it was so very late and one friend had to fly out very early the next morning. Then it was time to say goodbye and we were sad to have to say it. We liked each other just as much as we knew we would and even more now. Why can't we live closer? So this is the picture we decided to take, on the spur of the moment to document our meeting. Two very tired girls, late at night. One had worked so hard for 10 days straight and the other just doesn't stay up much past 10pm anymore.

Reflecting on all of the above, I am smiling but thinking of so many things we did not get a chance to talk about. Next time :) I'm so glad I met you Kristin. You are an amazing person and I am so lucky to call you my friend.

Project Runway update -Don't read any further if you have Tivoed the show (Tivoed new verb)

So the challenge this week was interesting, An evening gown for the Miss Universe contest.
I did think that Kayne's dress was pretty in a glitzy kind of way. It definitely was a fit for the pagent. I thought Uli's dress was unique and modern but felt Ms. USA would have been lost in all that material.

Ok so Malan was very creepy but I must say after hearing some of the things he had to say about his past were absolutely heartbreaking. eg: he showed his mom his sketches at a very young age, her telling him that they would never get him anywhere and never to do that again. That is just plain sad and basically child abuse in my opinion. The crying after he was kicked off and him saying he never really had many friends. Then him getting ready to leave and saying he felt like a failure. In the end, I was actually was routing for him to stay.
I thought the concept of his dress was good it just didn't translate well at all. I think that Angela should have gone home because of her attitude and inability to work with her partner. Although Malan's design was bad, he did work well with his partner.

Can't wait to see the drama next week. Please forgive any bad grammer or run-on sentences, I really should be sleeping.

WIP and WIP finally complete (a little early)

Above is my new work in progress. All the makings for a skirt. I am really into red, white and blue lately. I wear a skirt almost everyday to work, so I thought why not try to make one. Does it matter that I have NEVER sewn any type of clothing on my sewing maching? The lady at the fabric store didn't seem to think so. She even got me the zipper foot and the zipper because I didn't realize I need them. Hmmm...I am really in trouble aren't I :) Wish me luck!

Then below is my completed work in progress. I am finally done with the invitations for my best friend's baby girl's 1st birthday. They are almost as cute as little Lola herself.

to a really fun swap. The above pic is what I received in my three thing swap from my friend Laurie. I met Laurie at the Art and Soul retreat last February. The premise of the swap was to send each other three things and make something with them, then send that newly made item back. Confused yet?? Well, I got my three things artwork today and oh my gosh. I think my heart skipped a beat when I saw it. I sent her the green and pink flowered fabric, the ballerina image and some of the beads. I am absolutely thrilled to be the owner of this beautiful book.

Oh and not to mention the other things she sent along with it. Tons of beautiful fabrics, buttons, bits and bobs. ALL COLOR COORDINATED! I tell you she's a girl after my own heart. I am so spoiled, thank you so much Laurie. I look forward to our next project.

I had a few comments on the japanese craft books I got, here are answers to some of your questions.

Lera- I got one book from amazon japan and three from yesasia. Yesasia doesn't charge for shipping but it takes longer to get the books. They also were out of one of the books I ordered.

Jackie - The books I bought are Machine Made Patchworks, Machine Made Patchworks 02. Tradition, Textile Machine a Coudre (the red one with the bag with circles on it) and another one which I can't find anywhere in my house, which is very strange because I am ANAL about my crafty reading material. Anyway I think it has some to do with Machine patchwork with scraps. You would probably recognize all of these by their covers because they have been all over bloggyland.

5 things I am excited about:

#1 The new season of Project Runway started tonight. If you haven't ever watched this show, now is the time to start. You don't have to love or have an understanding of fashion to enjoy this show. You just have to love the creative process. I often feel so inspired after watching an episode that I go straight into the studio. The challenges they give these designers are so crazy. I am amazed at the innovation and pieces they come up with. Oh and also there is a minimal reality cheese factor. On Bravo Wednesdays 10pm. (another project runway fan here)

#2 If you don't already know there is a vintage button swap going on here. I just love vintage buttons and if you read this post you'll know someone else who does. By the way, I just love the shim+son blog. I mean it doesn't get much more inspiring than that. I am always so excited to see if there is a new post up (I know there are other ways to find this out but I like the element of surprise) In an email I practically begged her to open an etsy shop. She promised me she is working on selling her wares and I can't wait. (sitting at my computer waiting) Of course you do remember this story.

#3 I am going to meet this friend, in person. Kristin and I became friends through swapping and blogging. If you have been around here long enough you definitely know her name, we have become fast friends. She is going to be in my neck of the woods tomorrow and I just can't wait to "meet" her.

#4 Hubby is coming home from Portland tonight. After reading this post I was sad, but now I am even more sad. Just got word that even after talking it up and putting a business card in his wallet he wasn't able to make it to Ella Posie before closing time to get me a little something {sniff}

#5 After all the help from the comments my peeps left here I was able to order some Japanese craft books. They have all arrived and I am inspired. I know they will definitely influence the way I work. Unfortunately, I am still afraid of my sewing machine so I will have to experiment.

I put some of this stationery in the shop today. Everyone really seems to like it so I thought I would give it a shot. The chocolate cards have a vintage wallpaper intial, then the envelopes are made out of the same wallpaper and lined with vintage sheet music. I will personalize it with the initial of your choice.

I also added two more pieces of art. One that I showed here but now it has been mounted on wood. I think it really adds to the piece. The other is a companion piece also mounted on wood.

Just wanted to show off my atc's from the fairy tale and fable swap. I love them all. From left to right: Paper Bag Princess (with a tiny paper bag) by Dawn, Cinderella by Anastasia, and The Frog Prince. On my frog prince card there was no email address and she also sent me a cool envelope, a book plate and a piece of gum. These last few days have been busy working on the house so not so much crafting going on here. I am reorganing my studio with the boxes I purchase from Ikea. I have just a few things left to put away and yet again no where to put them. Back to work for me. I want to do some creating and I need a clean work space to do that. I need to have a garage sale.

Oops, here is my work in progress for Friday on Saturday. This was absolutely inspired by this post by Alicia. Her color combos are always so right on! I'm not a very big fan of gray but her post looked so lovely, I just had to try out the colors myself. This canvas doesn't look like much now, but it will end up being one of the backgrounds of my collage. I'm thinking flowers. It definitely has the possibility to be really girlie.

Lucky scrap winners: The scraps have been divvied up, packed in their A7 envelopes and addressed. I just have to get up the courage to go to the post office. It's not the actual post office that is so bad, it's that for some reason my children turn into wild banshees when we step inside. What is it about that place?

I also received my ATC's from Amy's swap. They are so great! I love them all and I was lucky enough to receive Amy's art envelope. Oh so very cute. I will post them tomorrow.

Remember in this post how I told you that my newly organized scrap basket was inspiring me? Well, pictured above is my new disorderly scrap basket that is driving me crazy. It is quite amazing what a few weeks of continual crafting can do to fill a scrap basket.

The collage above was sold last year. It is one of my favorites, so simple. I actually don't dream in French in case you were wondering :)

I managed to score one of Blair's gorgeous bags yesterday. The Raleigh. *sigh* It is so damn cute that I keep going to her etsy shop just to look at the picture. I know it will be here soon, I can't wait. The actual purchase of the bag was quite hilarious. My husband announced at 7:30am the morning the bags were to go on sale that we would be taking his car in to get serviced. Well I knew he would never understand the absolute fact that if I wasn't at my computer at 9am for at least 10 minutes straight I would never get one of Blair's bags, let alone the one that I wanted. I knew I had to come up with a plan. So I just went really slow all morning. Didn't get the kids dressed, laid on the couch. He finally got so frustrated with me that he ended up telling me to meet him at the car dealership. My plan worked. I had the whole house to myself, yes he even took the kids, to pick out the bag of my choice. Sometimes a girl has got to do what a girl's got to do (to get a great handbag)

I have really been enjoying the comments you have been leaving. Such interesting and different views of why we all blog. I have another question I want to throw out there but I think I will wait until tomorrow. Until then au revoir.

Thanks to all the cool, crafty chicks who gave me the 411 on the japanese craft books. I appreciate all the info. I was able to track down the tutorial for ordering books from amazon japan. I also found yesasia.com for some too. I ordered 5 and I am really excited to get them. It was torture for me to see them on blogs and be so inspired but not be able to stare at the pages on my own. I know all of you are shaking your heads, yes you know exactly what I am talking about. That is why I love ya'll.

I read something interesting on a blog a few days ago. It said "Would you still blog if no one read it or left comments there?" I thought that was an interesting question. I love knowing that I have found a handful of like-minded people that share certain interests and passions that I have.
Quite a few friendships have blossomed and I feel my blog is almost a penpal tool. What do you all think??

It's been a little quiet around here, sorry about that. I seemed to have pinched a nerve in my neck. It has been bothering me for about a month now but two days ago I woke up and couldn't move. I think it has something to do with the fact that I still love to carry Mr. C around and I probably shouldn't. It feels better today. So I haven't been working on much project wise but am hoping to do a little crafting/artwork this weekend.

I went for a walk this morning and missed buying one of hilary's pattern books. I don't really sew well, (yet) but definitely want to learn. All sold out.

I'm loving all the japanese craft books/magazine everyone is posting about. Does anyone have a specific resource they use to buy them? I am having trouble finding the one I want. Any input would be appreciated.

My etsy shop is now open

With some serious prompting, a ton of graphic design and computer help from my sis I was able to get my etsy shop open this past weekend. An etsy shop you say? You never mentioned you were going to open an etsy shop! With the kids, work and various other commitments I wasn't sure when I would get around to it. I also needed a stellar banner but didn't have the resources to... oh wait all I needed to do was ask. Thank you sister for the amazing banner. It is perfect!

So my etsy shop is now open. Happy shopping!

This is the project I spoke of that has been on the back burner for a while. I did a three things trade with a friend I met at art and soul in February. The challenge is to send each other three things from your stash. After receiving your three things you are then to make something out of them and send it back. I also recently did this with Kristin.

The three things Laurie sent me were the fabric (her dress), the crown and some lace trim. I used that for the corsage on her wrist. It is funny because I have known what I was going to do for so long the collage took me less than an hour to piece all together.
(That never happens)
I had finished the background on the canvas quite some time ago but was not sure what I would place on it until today. I had found the vintage paper doll in May and I knew I wanted to make the fabric her dress and use the crown. I also knew I wanted her to be wearing a belt and in adding that I had my accent color. Added the red tickets, and low behold what do I find in my newly organized scrap basket, a fragile sticker that came on the piece of art I bought from Lisa. Serendipity.

I am officially opting out of color week. It is stressing me out trying to find a pic or a subject of the right color and I know that is not what color week is about soo I'm out. I am enjoying other peoples pic. Kristin has some great out of the ordinary photos.

I want to take a minute and thank everyone for their kind words about my artwork. It is a little scary to put your artwork in a forum where people can comment about it. (or not comment which is probably worse)

What is everyone working on? Up next for me will be a project that has been put on the back burner and needs some attention. I am doing a black and white card swap with my swapperific friend mary ann. I really enjoyed this because I don't usually work much with black and white except to accent pieces I create. It was a real stretch for me. Although I did use the terms white and black liberally and I did use little bits of color here and there. My favorite card I made is above.

I received the most outstanding package from ellia a few days ago. I took countless pictures of her darling packaging and adorable labels. Blogger has been, how do i say this nicely? Somewhat difficult as of late. I had repeatedly tried to post the many pictures and was not getting anywhere except errorland. I have given up and chosen to show my wonderful things in two pictures. The above is just some of the the stuff sweet ellia sent me. Things made of paper. Ellia and I share a love (an obsession?) with paper and let me tell you she has quite a stash. I was lucky enough to receive some prime vintage goodies. She even sent fun goodies to my little girl. So thoughtful!

Please excuse the horrid pic but look what else she sent. An apron!!! I wrote to ellia that I had been wanting an apron so badly since they are all the rage in this bloggy, crafty world of ours. I cannot sew (well) so I had resigned myself to buying one at anthropologie and faking it. Now I don't have to. Thank you ellia for your kindness, generousity and your great eye. We love everything!

flashback friday -corsage

ok two things happened to bring you the serendipity that is this post. The first is this...I have for some time been interested in doing a theme day like self-portrait tuesday ( it is tuesday right?) and corners of my home on thursday, five senses friday you get the idea. well upon reading this blog I found something I really liked...flashback friday. so i am borrowing the idea and hoping the originator will take it as a compliment.

the second piece is the other day I was looking in the dictionary. (don't laugh, proper spelling is important to me) I came upon the word corsage and I remembered something I thought you all would find funny.

It was 1987. The picture here is of me and my first real boyfriend, one that drives and you actually go on dates with, he takes you to school dances etc. Well lucky for me his grandmother liked to make corsages. NO, not really lucky at all. Reason being she made them ridiculously HUGE. Please check out how it almost covers my whole forearm. I remember being sooo embarrassed but couldn't really say anything. This picture was our Winter Formal. My prom corsage was even bigger but by that time I had realized what a jerk my boyfriend was and had gotten really skinny. So much so that I don't want to show the photo here. Well, I am happy to report that at the next year's Winter formal I was back to my healthy self with a new boyfriend, a much smaller corsage and much bigger hair. Hey it was the 80's after all! By the way, my new boyfriend was a delivery boy for a florist. Hmmm...

I took the day off of work today. I had to take my daughter to her school orientation this afternoon so I had the whole morning to myself to get "stuff" done. What a productive morning! I can't tell you how good it feels to peek out of the proverbial rock I have placed myself under. I admit that most of my stress is self-imposed That is how I am built. I like to take on several projects eg: art trades, swaps and custom work at once. I am also a semi-procrastinator. I say semi because if you met me 10 years ago you would agree that I have improved. Children have a way of doing that.
So here I am feeling less bogged down and thinking I should take the day off work more often.
Next Thursday? It's a date.

Has anyone read Little Birds post from yesterday? I am feeling the same exact way. Overwhelmed. There is nothing major or new going on in my life. Work is really busy and I just have lots of things to do. Little things that add up. I should write a list, that might make me feel better.

ok you know it is time to stop celebrating your b-day when people at work start asking you when you will be taking the decorations down from your desk. This is it I promise. I just have to give props to Kristin. I talk about Kristen quite a bit here. She is my cyber buddy. I met her doing a swap-bot swap. (ok so something good has happened at swap-bot) She emailed me to tell me she liked what I had sent. Something about her email made me smile so I wrote her back and we've been friends ever since. This cyber friendship thing was new and a little strange to us both at first, but after a couple of emails we decided this was a good thing.

So on my birthday she sent the above goodies. A super cute pouch from her favorite etsy shop, keyka lou , a great book called all mixed up (it's like paper dolls collage style), some really cute buttons and some yummy chocolate turtles. Which my daughter and I just sampled today because I have been wanting to take a picture. holy good chocolate batman!
